Achanakmar Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh state is one of the highly potential conservational areas having rich floral and faunal diversity. The present study reveals the occurrence of epiphytic lichen flora of the Tiger Reserve. Arthorniaceae, Chrysothricaceae, Graphidaceae, Lecanoraceae, Parmeliaceae, Pertusaricaeae, Physiciaceae and Ramaliaceae are the most common among different lichen families while Caloplaca, Cryptothecia, Dirinaria, Heterodermia, Lecanora, Lepraria, Parmaotrema and Pertusaria are the dominant lichen genera on trees. The crust forming together with leprose to sub-leprose lichens represents primary colonization of lichens in tropical dry and moist deciduous forests of the region comprising of young tree vegetation. The present study provides valuable information of lichen succession with respect to microclimatic condition.Keywords

Background: Researchers and clinicians are working hard for prevention and management of dementia and its complications, no definite remedy is available now. Our aim is to investigate effects of occupational therapy in maintaining quality of life of patients having mild to moderate dementia.Methodology: 263 older subjects (new-182, old-81) were included between November 2010 and April 2013. After screening of all patients by a geriatrician, 192 were excluded having [Cognitive impairment with no dementia (CIND)]. Rest 71 patients were included after satisfying DSM IV criteria and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Experimental group received newly developed occupational therapy intervention along with the drug, and control group received only drug for a period of 5 weeks. Both groups were evaluated using the six outcome measures a) Folstein Mini Mental status examination, b) Geriatric Depression scale Hindi Version c)Bristol Activity of daily Living, d) Modified Physical Performance test, e) BEHAV-AD, f)WHO QOL [Hindi Version] obtained baseline and reassessment after 5 weeks.
Result: Included subjects with mean age 69.39 having 33.80% of primary education, 32.39 % up to class 12, 47.88% of living with spouse, 47.88% of living with spouse and family, 78.87% married, 16.9% widowed, 22.53% unemployed, 43.66% retired. After application of novel occupational therapy on experimental group there is statistically improvement in the domain of Depression, ADL, Physical performance, and quality of life, out of all six domains.
Conclusion: The study reveals that the newly developed occupational therapy program can improve behavioral status, functionality, physical performance, mood and quality of life in elderly dementia patient at short term. A follow up study is required to ascertain the long term effect of treatment.

The present paper deals with the various uses of plants species collected by the Baiga tribe in four selected forest villages of Bilaspur Forest Division. The information on collection, harvesting, marketing and sale of NTFPs were collected through personal interview with local elderly tribal people of the villages. During the study 24 wild edible and 19 medicinal plant species were found being utilized as food, medicine, fruits and for other purposes. The knowledge on plant resource use was observed to be location specific. The activities relating to the collection, harvesting, processing and sale of NTFPs are mainly performed by local tribal people living in the area. Interpretation of outstanding traditional knowledge on sustained harvesting, utilization and cultivation may further sustain their livelihoods. Characterization of plant based knowledge and refinement and value addition to bio- products may further advance the livelihood regime of the Baiga tribes living in the forest villages of Bilaspur Forest Division of Chhattisgarh.Keywords

Global climate change caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) is recognized as a serious environmental issue of the 21st century. The role of land-use systems in stabilizing CO2 levels and increasing carbon (C) sink potential of the soils has attracted considerable scientific attention in the recent past. Type of land-use system is an important factor controlling soil organic matter (SOM), since it affects the amount and quality of litter input, litter decomposition rates and processes of organic matter stabilization in the soils. SOM which contains more reactive soil organic carbon (SOC) than any other single terrestrial pool, plays a major role in determining C storage in ecosystems and moderating atmospheric concentrations of CO2.Full Text
